Jumanji book 19816/25/2023 ![]() ![]() Being bored and restless children, they destroy the house with all of their old games and decide to venture outside for some fun. Summary: Peter and Judy are told by their parents to keep the house clean while they are gone for the afternoon. ![]() Reader’s Annotation: Jumanji is just a game, isn’t it? ![]() The fantastical theme of the book, and the moral of being careful what you wish for, is very effective in his whimsical and humorous tone. His use of pen and ink in this book is gorgeous, and it is no wonder it was awarded the Caldecott Medal. He also often draws these scenes from the perspective of a child (he does this in many of his works), which lends itself to a more relatable story. It’s also in direct juxtaposition to the fantastical elements of this book. Van Allsburg’s photo-realistic style is, by all accounts, beautiful. ISBN- 978-0590479028.Īnalysis: I’m going to discuss illustration style and theme in this analysis. ![]()
